MomsGuide.com to Headquarter in Marblehead, MA Deals with Simon&Shuster, Amazon.com and Dr. Pepper struck Marblehead, MA, February 15, 2000 - MomsGuide.com, Inc., an internet start-up company developing a web portal site for sports-moms, is setting up operations in Marblehead, at the Little Harbor Office Park. The company’s forthcoming web site, called Mom's Guide to Sports, will be launched in August of 2000 and will feature a broad range of informational content, community resources, and e-commerce shopping geared toward soccer moms. "Web research indicates soaring use of searching and purchasing online by women, but there are no major, well branded web sites focusing specifically on mothers and their special needs and interests in the context of kids’ sports," says Gayle Grader, Director of Marketing for MomsGuide.com and a Marblehead resident and mother of two. "Moms Guide to Sports will be a convenient, editorially composed portal for information, goods and services that serves this demographic," she added. MomsGuide.com just received its first round of venture capital funding and is actively hiring full and part-time people including web developers, editors, e-commerce merchandisers, and senior managers. "I’m even looking for a president to run the day-to-day operations, and it would be great if it were a new media professional with real motherhood experience," said John Rourke, founder and principal owner of the company. MomsGuide.com seems to be off to a fast start. It has a book series publishing agreement with Simon&Shuster, and it recently inked a deal with Amazon.com to distribute its Mom’s Guide to Sports publications through the Amazon.com site. And just last week, MomsGuide.com signed a tie-in promotional contract with Dr. Pepper/7Up, Inc. to package one million GameTime Guides with Dr. Pepper soda as a give-away in the stores of a major, undisclosed national retailer in an April promotion.
